For aficionado guitarists, your guitar is much more than just an instrument. It's a reflection of you as an individual. If you're an unconventional musician, then a conventional sounding and looking guitar won't do. You need an axe that's going to reflect your originality and represent your distinctiveness.
It's got to be unique without compromising an ounce of sound quality, and it's got to be priced right. If a particular guitar can meet all three criteria, the maybe it's worthy of your hard earned bucks.
Fans of the Gibson Explorer design will be attracted to the Ibanez Destroyer. The angular waist cut away of its top and rear make for a comfortable axe that has been recognized as being very playable. It has a slimmer neck radius that is progressively more narrow from the first to twelfth fret. It's no less thick in the body however, weighing in at nine pounds and accordingly carrying that same fat tone as the Explorer.
Ibanez wanted the Destroyer to be a cool-looking guitar that carries some crank for the intermediate player. They've installed twin ceramic rail humbuckers in the usual bridge and neck positions and paired them with a 3-way coil splitter switch. The Destroyer's DiMarzio Activator X pickups increase the harmonic clarity that's often compromised in favour of the high output of active circuitry. A player-friendly rosewood fingerboard carries 22 vintage medium jumbo frets and pearl / abalone block inlays for increased visual appeal.
If you're ready to step up to a more playable and better sounding guitar that owns a distinctive look, check out an Ibanez Destroyer. It's got all the cool of an Explorer with a way lower price tag.
